If people treat you haughtily or condescendingly, don’t react. Be polite but distant in your behavior toward them.
Let them see that, whatever opinion they hold of you, they have your respect and good will but not your deference.
Never court anyone’s good opinion, but hear people’s opinions impersonally, deferring to wisdom, but never to ignorance.
